Prepositions

What is preposition ?
A preposition is a word usually placed before a noun to express such as time (duration) Place (position ),
Or movement (direction).

Prepositions that indicate :

Place(position) : 
in, on, between, among, within,inside, below,in front
of,etc.

Time ( duration ):
In, on, at, for, within, about, almost, nearly,before,after,since,etc.

Direction (movement) :
across, into, towards, from,to,away from, at, beyond, etc.

Examples of Prepositions that denotes time ------------------


At-- is used to indicate time exactly.
Examples : at 8 o'clock, at midnight, at Diwali,etc.

On -- is used to denote day and date:
Examples: on Monday, on the last night,on june 19th, etc.

In--is used to describe a particular time in the month,year,seasons,
Examples: in winter, in the morning, 

By--is used to express incidents in future.
Example: See me by 6 p.m.

For--is used to express duration.
Examples: for six years, for two months, for three hours, etc.

Since--is used to denote, when the incidence started at.It always comes with preposition' to' or 'till'
Example: He  waited for me from 6 to 6.30 p.m.

During- is used to express duration.
Example: During the stay  of ten days.

Within--is used to denote the action finishes in....
Example: I will return within an hour.

Prepositions of position

1) Between, -  ---is used to  indicate the middle  object between two other objects.
Example: a quarrel between the two brothers.

2)Among --is used to state the place in the group.
Example:Divide the property among  5 brothers.


3)above---is used to show the  place at higher level.
Example : My house stands on a hilltop  above the fields.

4)Over - is used to indicate the things straight on the head.
Example: There is a fan exactly over my head.

5)below-- is used to indicate lower level.
Example : There was a lake below the valley.

6)under --is used to indicate straight down
Example: He was resting under the tree.

1) about -
Example: He told me about You.

2) across -
Example: He went to the shop across the road.

3)after-hours
Example:Raju entered the class after the teacher.

4) behind-
Example:  Yogita hid behind the curtain.

5) beside-  
   Example :                  Her purse was lying beside the wall.

6) besides -
Example:  Besides the parents, the neighbours were present at her speech.
 
7) through--
Example: The girl saw a tree through the glass doors.

8) till -
Example: His father works hard till dark.

9) into-
Example: The boys went deeper into the forest.

10) with --
Example : He came back with his family.

11) for--is
Example: walking is good for health.

12)than--
Example: Shree is taller than Rani.
